Changelog

What's new at StockFishy

A running record of what's shipped, across the browser extension and stockfishy.com. We keep this to the changes that actually affect how you use the product — new features and engine upgrades, not every small fix.

Engine
Stockfish 19, on demand
Stockfish 18 runs by default for instant analysis. Switch on Deep Analysis for Stockfish 19 — the newest release of the open-source engine that powers chess software worldwide — for a stronger second opinion on the positions that matter.
Practice
Free, unlimited puzzles
Tactics training at /puzzles — pins, forks, skewers, discovered attacks, and more — with a rating that adapts and gets harder as you improve. No daily cap, ever.
Live play
On-board analysis, everywhere you play
Every legal move for any piece, rated and color-coded live, directly on Chess.com and Lichess — not just the engine's single top pick.
Game review
Unlimited Chess.com game reviews
Save a full move-by-move analysis of any finished Chess.com game to your account and step through it later at stockfishy.com — free and uncapped, on every plan.

See the best moves, not just the grade

  • Website Every move in a game review now shows the engine's best moves for that position, ranked with their evaluations and continuations, and where the move actually played ranked among them. A green arrow marks the best move on the board.
  • Website Click any move in a suggested line to see that position on the board, then jump back to the game with one click or Esc.

Game reviews you can trust, on one screen

  • Website Fixed pieces disappearing in some reviews. Games saved with older versions of the extension could record impossible positions around captures; StockFishy now checks every saved game move by move and automatically replaces a damaged one with the official game from Chess.com, then re-analyzes it.
  • Website A redesigned review page that fits on one screen: board with both players' accuracy, the evaluation graph, an explanation of the current move and a compact numbered move list side by side. Step with the arrow keys, Home and End.
  • Website Games you imported but never analyzed now analyze automatically when you open them.

A new look for stockfishy.com

  • Website Redesigned the whole site: a darker, walnut-and-brass look, a new homepage with a live demo board, and the same warm board colors across puzzles and game reviews.
  • Website The pricing page now answers the common questions up front: what counts toward your daily limit, when it resets, and what happens when you run out.

Free puzzles, and one board everywhere

  • Website Launched free, unlimited tactics puzzles at /puzzles — pins, forks, skewers, discovered attacks, back-rank mates, and more, with hints and a rating that adapts to how you're doing.
  • Website Rebuilt the analysis board with real chess artwork and smooth, animated moves, and brought the same board to game reviews so the two look and feel like one product.
  • Website Game reviews now analyze every position in the background as soon as you open one, instead of computing each move on demand — stepping through a game is instant.

Opening Book, and sign-in from the board

  • Extension Added an Opening Book to the live analysis panel — browse classical openings (Ruy Lopez, Sicilian, Queen's Gambit, King's Indian, and dozens more) and see the book continuation drawn directly on the board as you play, alongside the engine's own ratings.
  • Extension You can now sign in and out directly from the on-board panel, no need to leave the game to open the toolbar popup.

Stockfish 19, and unlimited game reviews

  • Extension Added Stockfish 19 as an optional Deep Analysis engine, alongside the default Stockfish 18 lite engine used for everyday instant analysis.
  • Extension Website Launched free, unlimited full-game reviews for Chess.com. Click "Analyze on StockFishy" after any game — no daily limit, and it works even if you never turned on live analysis during the game itself.
Initial release

Rate every move, not just one

  • Extension Launched on the Chrome Web Store. Click any piece on Chess.com or Lichess to see every legal move it can make, ranked and color-coded from Best to Blunder — not just the engine's single top choice.
  • Extension Continuous Analysis: turn it on and get fresh ratings automatically after every move, yours and your opponent's.

StockFishy is closed-source, but we publish this changelog in the same spirit most good software does: so you can see what's actually changing and when, without digging through release notes buried in a store listing.
